Super Life: Mini Electric Full Body Massager

So I very seldomly blog about tools but today I thought that I would give it a go. Earlier this year I learned what stress really was. I learned what it was to carry stress in my upper neck, shoulder blades and lower back. I was looking for a massager to relieve the stress and also ease the pain in those areas. I did some online searching and discovered that massagers are actually flippen expensive. I came across the Super Life Mini Electric Full Body Massager at a dirt cheap price and decided to give it a go.

Darlings, if you look at this massager you would assume that it doesn’t work and that it is gimmicky. Shhhheeeesh I live for the gimmicks in beauty products and tools. I always go out of my way to test these things out and prove the naysayers wrong. I am so happy to report that this has become my handbag staple and I would urge you to spend just a few rands on this product.city-girl-vibe-x-super-life-mini-electric-massagerMy mom bought this a few months back and I can honestly say that I have been using it religiously. It is such a convenient tool that makes it perfect for traveling or popping in your handbag. This massager works with batteries or you can charge it with the usb cable that comes with it. If you’re somebody that sits at an office desk for long periods of times, this will be your “at the desk” bestie”.

When you hold down onto the top (round section) of the handle, the massager vibrates onto the area where you’re applying the pressure. Vibrations given off by this massager, along with kneading action improves blood circulation and helps to unwind muscles; resulting in instant relief.city-girl-vibe-x-super-life-mini-electric-massager-reviewObviously I am not going to sit here and tell you that this massager can work wonders, especially if you’ve been experiencing deep growing pains. I have had my mom test this massager out too but she didn’t feel that it was powerful enough but for someone like me that doesn’t usually have back pains, I felt like it was powerful enough for me.  This massager is mostly for instant relief of long hours sitting at a desk and to release tension in the muscles. I can actually feel this tool working its magic and the muscles warming up and relaxing when it pulsates on the area that requires some TLC.

Now that things have slowed down on my side and I have way less stress and tension in my upper neck and back, when it is that time of the month this massager becomes handy as I massage all those areas where I carry my moods…

Kidding.

Or not.

The Super Life Mini Electric Full Body Massager retails for R35 on https://www.perfectdealz.co.za and comes in four shades. I haven’t purchased anything from this online store but they seem to have some awesome and legit deals.

{Review} 11 Piece Mermaid Makeup Brush Set

Let me first start off by saying that I take my product shots before I start using my products/tools, so don’t ever think that items  only appear on my blog for reviews sake. Every year I like to treat myself to a new brush set, the last time I bought myself a set was 2 years ago from Glamore and I have to say that it is my “go to” set for applying my foundation. My sister bought this mermaid set for me a few weeks back and I wanted to see whether these brushes really did the trick or if people only wanted them because of their beautiful appearance. Rewind back just a little bit, these brushes were popular a year ago when everyone wanted unicorn, rainbow, crystal and mermaid brushes.
city-girl-vibe-x-11-piece-mermaid-makeup-brush-setI may be one year late with these brushes but I am 100% one of those people that don’t feel the need to buy items/products just because of their popularity status. I mainly wanted a new set of eye brushes because my Glamore set didn’t have every brush in for a complete eye look. I opted for a synthetic brush set because synthetic bristles doesn’t take up so much product and wastage is to a minimum. Who doesn’t like saving makeup so that it can last longer?! city-girl-vibe-x-11-mermaid-makeup-brush-set-reviewIn this set you receive 11 brushes. Two fluffy brushes to do some work in the crease and outer eye. Three precision brushes to smoke out the lower lash line or to tight line the upper or lower lash line. One brush to carve out your eyebrow with concealer when you fill your brows (to clean it up). One fan brush. One foundation brush that I will be using for contouring and then 3 weirdly shaped brushes that I have no idea what it’s for. Of course you can choose to do whatever you like with your brushes as there are NO RULES in makeup. This is just how I’ll be using my set.city-girl-vibe-x-11-piece-makeup-brush-set-collectionThese brushes are quite lightweight and I have to say that it is one aspect of these brushes that I don’t like much. Of course I can’t expect luxe feeling brushes if I didn’t pay that price. I love this size of these brushes as there are lots of space on the handle to adjust your brush and hold it how/where you want it. I feel like it is the perfect entry level set of brushes for anyone that is in the market to grow their brush set collection and adding staple brushes that they can use everyday. city-girl-vibe-x-mermaid-brush-set-tailsNow let’s get to the aesthetic appearance and the reason why everyone loves these brushes so much. Obviously having brushes with this type of “bottom” is quite new and everyone wanted in on the newness. The handle of these brushes are plastic but it feels like metal. The ferrule however is metal and in a beautiful rose gold shade. Can we all just agree that these brushes are quite aesthetically pleasing? city-girl-vibe-x-mermaid-makeup-brush-set-product-pickupcity-girl-vibe-x-mermaid-brush-setThese brushes picks up product beautifully. With one tiny dab into the pan, the bristles are covered in eyeshadow and you don’t really have to tap off excess powder. With the amount of product that the bristles picks up, you can easily control your eye look and not overcompensate on the product. It is easier to add more eyeshadow than to take away. With the more precision brushes, it is easier to clean the brushes as opposed to the flufflier brushes because the eyeshadow does go higher up toward the ferrule. I have washed these brushes before and I haven’t experienced any shedding YET, just the odd bristle here and there. city-girl-vibe-x-mermaid-tail-foundation-contour-brushThe last product in the brush set that I will be talking about is probably the most popular one of them all. These brushes are sold individually as well and I have even seen Manny MUA review these on his Youtube channel. He had a love/hate relationship with it so I was quite curious to see how it’ll pan out. This is actually a foundation brush but this isn’t the type of brush that I would typically use to apply foundation. I prefer a more densely packed brush like a kabuki. I have used this brush to contour, especially the nose area. I have to say that on the cheek area it focused the product on one section too much and the contour would look quite unnatural and it was harder to blend out. On the nose however it worked as the perfect contour tool. To me personally, I preferred using this brush for powder contour as cream contour was a mission to blend out.

This brush set is available on Wantitall for R555. Next on my list is the mermaid brush set with the powder brushes as I don’t have one decent powder brush in my collection.

I haven’t done a blogger tag in such a long time, remember when that used to be a thing? I lived for it! I loved doing tags on the blog as it was my way of taking a break from regular reviews, fashion edits and exploring, to expose my readers to a different side of me and let you know that it is in fact a person behind the keyboard and not a bot. I have been participating in random blogger tags since I started my blog back in 2012 and you can check them all out (if you like) – The Beauty Blogger Tag, The Beauty Blogger, Confessions Of A Blogger, The Lipstick Tag and The Beauty Tag. {Review} Cath Kidston: Paper Rose Manicure Trio

$

I am so lucky and super grateful that I get to try many international brands when my “beauty mule” travels the world, this time she traveled to the UK and picked up some goodies for me from Cath Kidston. Of course one of the gifts that she brought me couldn’t be more fitting after I read this article that explained that your hands are one of the first 5 body parts to reflect aging. Maybe I am being a bit paranoid, over the top, dramatic… all of the above mentioned, but I am upping my moisturizing routine and water intake.  I have to admit, my hands are probably my most neglected as I always focus more on the other areas like my face.

I haven’t tried anything from Cath Kidston before and obviously was super excited to give this trio a go. Before I get into the reviewing part of this post, this brand is quite popular in London – with many stores scattered around the UK and even a huge online store with products ranging from beauty to clothing, from bags to stationery. Unfortunately they don’t ship to SA but I have seen limited stock of this brand’s beauty products on another site (feel free to google if you want) at a hefty price tag. This trio retails for £12 which is roughly R224 when converted to ZAR. city-girl-vibe-x-cath-kidston-wild-rose-quince-manicure-trioFirstly, the fragrance of this trio is AH-MAZING. I am not usually a fan of rose scented products as it can smell quite artificial but this smells like “the real deal”. It smells expensive and if I have to compare to a smell familiar to me, I would say that it smells like bottled rose water. You can smell this fragrance escaping the box even before you open it. For someone that is not a fan of rose scented products, this manicure set has me sold on it now.

The first item that I tried in the box is the hand cream which comes in a 50ml tube. It is a whipped consistency, not quite as whipped as a body butter but thicker than your normal hand cream. You only require the smallest pea amount to cover your hands as the heat of your hands smooths the product over effortlessly. One thing that I love about this product is that it doesn’t leave your hands feeling sticky or that it feels heavy on your hands. It soaks into the skin as soon as you rub it in and you can immediately carry on with whatever it is that you are doing.  This product is paraben free which is something that I appreciate in my beauty products. If I could change just one thing then it would be packaging. I am not a fan of screw off tops when it comes to hand creams or lotions in general as I tend to just throw the top down when I apply something to my hands.city-girl-vibe-x-cah-kidston-handcreamNext up is the cuticle cream. Gosh I haven’t used a cuticle cream in years and this probably explains why I always have hangnails. If you’re not in the loop with your nail anatomy, hangnails are caused by nail folds losing moisture and becoming dry and brittle. For me, this is mostly evident in the winter months and I couldn’t have received this at a better time.

This cuticle cream requires the teeny, tiniest bit of product. Don’t get finger dipping happy as you are just going to waste product and putting it back wouldn’t be the wisest of choices… you know, bacteria and all. I used to be a cuticle oil girl but never used to like how shiny it made my nail area and I am glad to report that this doesn’t do that. The cuticle cream is also paraben free and comes in a 33ml container. city-girl-vibe-x-cath-kidston-cuticle-creamNow that I have completely fallen in love with a brand and products that I won’t be able to afford or get for myself in the foreseeable future, would I recommend these products? Absolutely! The scent of these are quite potent and it won’t be everybody’s cuppa tea but I personally love it and find it soothing. Of course I can’t vouch for long term effectiveness regarding hand aging but I can however tell you that I don’t currently have ashy looking, hangnail ridden hands. These have found a permanent spot in my handbag and I feel like it makes such a beautiful birthday or christmas gift as it comes in a beautiful box with stellar packaging.

If you find yourself overseas, definitely check this brand out as buying it internationally will be much kinder on your pocket as opposed to buying it locally. If you do have R2K to spend on Cath Kidston products here in SA, it is just a google search away.

{Review} Citi Girl Makeup line review + Makeup look

A little bit over a month ago I did a first impressions on the Citi Girl makeup line that is exclusive to Edgars. I have been using the products together and separately for the past few weeks so that I can test which ones are my favourite and which products I will repurchase again. The Citi Girl makeup line can be found in Edgars stores and online and I have to admit is quite affordable. I have collabed with my MUA bestie Zoor to create a look and a secondary opinion from a professional is always great. Of course not all of the products are top notch but there are really some gems that I can’t wait to let you in on so let’s get cracking!city-girl-vibe-x-edgars-citi-girl-makeup-collectionI am going to start my review in the order that the products were applied to my face and also give you the lowdown on how the makeup worked with other products. So the Citi Girl makeup line doesn’t have a primer so I used the Clinique Hydra Essential moisturizer and the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser for my huge pores. At the moment I have a love/hate relationship with my skin because we are between seasons and my skin is trying really hard to adapt to the craziness.

Citi Girl – Foundation: Soft Beige (R44.95)city-girl-vibe-x-citi-girl-foundation-in-shade-soft-beigeRight off the bat, this foundation is too dark for me and I didn’t see a shade lighter than this at Edgars. In the warmer months this foundation will be spot on as I kind of still have that winter washed out look. I had to mix it in with a lighter Nars foundation in order to give me the look that I achieved further down below. This foundation is light coverage but can be built to a medium coverage. In my makeup look it appears full coverage but of course… it was paired with one of the best foundations of all time. That is another thing that I love about this foundation, it works well with other products and doesn’t alter its consistency much. The consistency is a bit thick but it blends like a dream. When getting the foundation I would suggest that you take one shade lighter than your complexion as it oxidizes darker. You really do need to set your foundation with a setting spray or else you won’t have any coverage at the end of the night. I would give this foundation a wearability of 6 – 8 hours before it looks as if you’re only wearing a tinted moisturizer. All in all, I would repurchase this foundation especially for the summer months as it is very lightweight on the skin and even oilier t-zone girls like myself can get away with this foundation paired with a good powder and setting spray.

Citi Girl – Foundation Stick: Cocoa (R39.95)city-girl-vibe-x-citi-girl-makeup-foundation-stick-in-shade-cocoaAs I mentioned in my first impressions post, this foundation I used as a contour stick and MAN OH MAN was it a good idea. Ladies, if you’re new to contouring or want to dabble in the world of contouring… this foundation  stick is your friend. It is super creamy and blends out like a dream. This stick can be blended out with a brush or a beauty sponge. It gives you the perfect chiseled cheek bones without your contour looking muddy. If you feel like your contour is not defined enough, then you can always go over your contour a second time. This stick was also used to contour my nose and I have to say that my nose went from zero to one hundred real quick. 😀

Citi Girl – Compact Powder: Caramel (R44.95)city-girl-vibe-x-citi-girl-makeup-compact-powder-in-shade-caramelSo I wanted to use this powder as a setting powder but it was also way too dark for me. I used it as a bronzer and it worked like a charm. It gave me a “straight out of the Bahamas” bronze glow and I was all for it. My friend used it on his darker skin tone and it looked really beautiful on the face. If you are a deeper skin stone than what I am then I would highly recommend this powder as it compliments the skin well, without looking over powdery. It is also great for intensifying your contour.

Citi Girl – Eyeshadow Quad: Beyond Natural and Deep Autumn (R39.95)

With these quads, I have a love/hate relationship. Some days I have better luck with it than others. I kind of bought both quads thinking that I could get an entire look out of it but I was wrong. When I initially started playing around with these shadows I thought that is was matte and shimmer in the quads and that if the first layer came off it was complete matte but that is not the case. These quads consists of satin finishes and shimmer shades – so you can’t get a full look out of these quads. We had to dip into the Morphe 35O palette to build up some intensity in the crease. These eyeshadows are not very pigmented , even when using concealer on the lid. I have found that if I use a concealer and a setting powder on the lids then the shadows shows up way better. I still stick to my initial thoughts that these quads are everyday/work/campus shadows as it doesn’t pack much drama. There’s not much fallout in these quads so that is a bonus. We took shots with the flash and without to see what it would look like. Under lots of lighting, the shadows have the ability to fade fast. I did a wear test and the shadows didn’t stay as long as I had hopped for and that is when we decided to add BOLD liner to the look. One big plus about these shadows are that the gold shimmer shades makes for a bomb highlighter.

Citi Girl – Blush: Pink Macaroon (R39.95)city-girl-vibe-x-citi-girl-blush-in-shade-pink-macaroonThis shade might seem a bit intimidating but it is not as “shocking” as it looks. I would however suggest that you go in with a light hand as it is pigmented. This blush gives a beautiful flush of colour to your cheeks without it looking clown-like. There are no glitter specks in the pan so it is a straight out matte blush. This blush would last me quite a long time as a little goes a long way. There are other shades in the Citi Girl collection as I feel like this shade would be too much for very fair skin tones.

Citi Girl – Waterproof Mascara: Black (R49.95)city-girl-vibe-x-citi-girl-makeup-waterproof-mascara-in-shade-blackThis is currently my most used mascara in my collection. If you have nonexistent eye lashes then this mascara is for you. This product is labelled as waterproof but it is not. I can let that slide because this mascara gives your lashes volume and length. I was blessed with a good “pair of lashes” and when I have a few layers of this mascara on then it looks as if I have eyelash extensions. When pulling the spoolie out of the tube, be sure to take some product off from the spoolie as too much comes out and when coating the lashes it can become quite clumpy. I am also so in love with the packaging of this mascara.

Citi Girl – Round Lipstick: Pale Pink (R29.95)city-girl-vibe-x-citi-girl-makeup-lipstick-vitamin-e-long-lasting-in-shade-pale-pinkIf you know me personally or have been reading my blog for a while then you would know that I am not a nude or dusty pink lip kind if a girl. I kind of went with this shade to push me out of my comfort zone. I hate to admit it but this is currently in my top 5 lipsticks at the moment. If you are not a lipstick wearer then I think you would love this lipstick and shade. It is extremely hydrating on the lips and has vitamin E in it. This lippie also comes across as a tinted lip balm.

With the above pictures, one was taken with and without a flash. After a few hours the eyeshadow became really faded, I am kind of into this bushy brows/lazy to get them done phase… that is why I have bangs again. I didn’t review the lip liner as it didn’t fit in with the look but I will mention it in a blog post in the next week or so. Over all, I am loving the Citi Girl range and I feel like there are some good gems in the collection.

{Review} Soph x Makeup Revolution Highlighter Palette + Makeup Look.

It is here! It is here! It is here!… finally. Well almost. I am pretty sure that all of you know by now that Makeup Revolution will be available in South Africa soon. Yes darlings, Makeup Revolution will be sold at Clicks stores. There will be a media launch on Thursday so by then you will know everything. I thought that today’s post would be fitting, where I chat about the best highlighter that I have ever used. Today on the blog I will be reviewing the Soph x Makeup Revolution Highlighter Palette. city-girl-vibe-soph-x-makeup-revolution-highlighter-paletteBefore I get into the bold claim that I just made, let us just take a moment to appreciate its beauty. This palette release is part of the collaboration between British Youtuber Sophie and Makeup Revolution, so I have no idea if it is limited edition or not. Unfortunately this palette was not purchased in South Africa and I have no idea if it will be available here. This highlighter palette is one of two products in the line and I so wish I could get my hands on the eyeshadow palette as well. This particular palette retails for £8 on the Revolution website which is R157. Let that sink in for just a little bit.

R157.00

I kid you not! That is R157 for eight highlighters and let me add that the pans are quite big.city-girl-vibe-soph-x-makeup-revolution-highlighter-palette-reviewThe versatility of the palette is what I love most. As this is a highlighter palette, the obvious parts of the face where you would apply product is to the highest points of the face where the light hits first BUT I like pushing the boundary with my product. This palette gives you such a beautiful inner (eye) corner highlight and the wide range of colours makes for a beautiful all over the lid shade. I have used it as both and I can definitely say that it works like a charm. Sometimes I can get a little carried away with highlighter so I have to tone it down and I find that I can control this product easily and also remove some “blinding-ness” by tapping my beauty sponge on areas where I got highlighter happy. city-girl-vibe-soph-x-makeup-revolution-bottom-row-highlighter-palette-swatches1city-girl-vibe-soph-x-makeup-revolution-top-row-highlighter-palette-swatchesThe formulation of the highlighters are quite soft, creamy and buttery.  It is easy to blend and you can take your makeup look from everyday subtle glow – to- blinding oncoming traffic real quick. There are 8 shades in the palette and I feel like the diverse shade range makes the highlighter palette suitable for each and every skin tone. I have quite textured skin and finding a highlighter that doesn’t put emphasis on my textured areas is a mission. I love how this palette sat on my skin and didn’t grab at the patchy areas. It is what I live for in a highlighter!city-girl-vibe-soph-x-makeup-revolution-makeup-lookcity-girl-vibe-soph-x-makeup-revolution-highlighter-palette-makeup-look-2In this makeup look, I had this highlighter on for quite a while and yet it was still visible. My double wing eyeliner had faded but the highlight was still there and it gave me such a good glow. I don’t usually reapply highlighter when I am out but I feel like this product held up quite well seeing that I have oily skin that eats product off from my face like clock work, especially since I have been under lots of lights this evening. When I want to intensify the highlighter, I give it a quick spritz with some setting spray. As you can tell, this product works quite well with other beauty products. I definitely prefer a powder highlighter like this over a liquid or cream highlighter. city-girl-vibe-soph-x-makeup-revoution-highlighter-palette-brush-pickupI prefer using a small fan brush to apply my highlighter as it feathers the product out onto the higher areas of my face, without focusing the product on one area too much. Using the small fan brush also allowed me to control the product more easily and not grabbing too much product at once.

I have to say, over the 7 years that I have been blogging and highlighter becoming a thing – this is by far my favourite highlighter. I look forward to what this brand has to offer in SA and I know it’ll be a hit given the uproar that its arrival has created. I will be watching their social media pages closely on Thursday and making mental wishlists of all of products that I am going to buy.

Lippies I’m loving at the moment #5

Let me first start off by apologizing for not sticking to my blogging routine yesterday, I usually do the Monday, Wednesday and Friday posting but I decided that I would do some blog admin yesterday and fix all of the bugs, spam comments and reply to emails. My aim is to publish three posts a week and from time to time the order of it may be scrambled but I try my best to stick to it. And yes, I write and publish on the same day as I try to have content and pricing as relevant as possible. Enough with all of my ramblings, let me get into today’s post and let you in on a few of my favourite makeup bag staples. city-girl-vibe-x-lippies-i-am-loving-at-the-moment1Lip products are one of my top two makeup items that I absolutely cannot live without. I am always trying new lippies whether it is high end or budget. Ask me anything about lippies, I am your girl! Every few months I like to do a round up on the blog of all my favourite lipsticks and today I thought that I would do a budget version of it. We all want to save a few coins, right?! My shade choices this time around may shock a few of you as you know that I am a die hard bold lip girl but I am warming up to the neutral tones.

Citi Girl – Long Lasting Lipstick with vitamin E in shade Ice Coffeecity-girl-vibe-x-citi-girl-lipstick-iced-coffeeAfter I did my full face of Citi Girl makeup, I decided to add a few new goodies from the line to my makeup collection. Surprisingly I am really enjoying the nudes in this collection. This is a demi matte lipstick that feels super comfortable on the lips. This nude lipstick has more of a brown undertone to it and is extremely long lasting. This lippie is also enriched with vitamin E and mineral oils, which explains why this creamy textured lipstick sits so comfortable on the lips for a demi matte lipstick. When this product starts fading on the lips, it fades down to a stain and doesn’t flake one bit. Another thing that I love about this lippie is how yummy it smells. It smells like cupcakes and I am always so tempted to lick my lips. For a R29.95 lipstick, I may just buy the whole line of lipsticks.

Vivadana – Moisture Care: Color Statement lipstick in shade 4city-girl-vibe-x-vivadana-lipstick-in-shade-4This lipstick my mom brought back from Saudi Arabia and I so wish that it was available in South Africa. This brand is popular in Saudi and I can see why. This lippie is super creamy but not very long lasting. It is however very pigmented and nourishing on the lips, without bunching up and gathering in the fine lines of your lips. I can definitely see myself wearing this product in the warmer months when I want a burst of colour on the lips but not something as intense as a bold red or deep purple lipstick. Describing the scent of this lipstick, I would say that it somewhat smells like what Tinkerbell (if you were a kid in the early 90’s, you would know) makeup used to smell like.

Jet: Just Be Gorgeous – Vitamin E Lipstickcity-girl-vibe-x-just-be-gorgeous-lipstick-shade-01This post wouldn’t be complete without a bold statement lip. If I had to give my current lipsticks on rotation a name and then this one would be “party season”. I know December seems like a far stretch but if you find yourself looking for an inexpensive red lipstick, pick this one up. This lippie is amongst my top 5 red lipsticks that I have ever used and you all know that I have a big collection. This lipstick is long lasting and is also jam packed with Vitamin E. I paid around R15 for this lipstick at Jet and I would absolutely recommend trying out the Just Be Gorgeous range of makeup, I have mentioned their products on the blog many times before and I can’t even begin to describe how underrated this brand is. This lippie however is a classic red lip and I believe every girl should own at least one red lipstick. This lipstick straight up smells like chocolate and I love it!

Citi Girl – Long Lasting Lipstick with vitamin E in shade Pale Pinkcity-girl-vibe-x-citi-girl-lipstick-pale-pinkI did a full review on this lipstick last week when I blogged about the entire Citi Girl Makeup line. This is another nude lippie but it has a pink undertone. Unlike the above mentioned lipstick in the shade “Ice Coffee”, the lipstick has tiny specks of glitter in it but isn’t really that much visible when on the lips. This lipstick has all the same aspects of the other Citi Girl lipstick so I guess the shade that you would opt for would depend on your choice of a pink or brown undertone in a nude lipstick.

Edgars: Design Cosmetics tinted lip balm in shade TL Don’t Speakcity-girl-vibe-x-design-tinted-lipbalm-tl-dont-speakAh, I love me a good tinted lip balm! I have basically tried the entire Design Cosmetics range (you can check my archives for reviews), so when I saw a new product that I haven’t tried before, I immediately popped it into my basket. You can probably see a trend with this post, I was going for more moisture enriched products seeing that we are just at the back end of the icy cold winter in the Cape. This lip balm is one of the best I have used in a long time. If you are wearing a super drying matte lipstick, this lip balm is your bestie. This lip balm is very moisturizing but won’t eat through your lipstick. I wear this lip balm when I am in the house as I don’t leave home without lipstick, over other lipsticks and when I go to sleep at night. It really provides that moisture that my lips needed after winter. If you’re a fan of coconut then you would love the scent of this balm. I wish this product existed when I was in high school as this was the type of balms that I lived for. This currently retails for R16.95.

And that is it for my favourite lippies at the moment. All of these products retails for under R30 and is currently in stores (with the exception of the Vivadana lipstick).

{Review} Britney Spears: Fantasy – Fine Fragrance Mist

If there is one celebrity fragrance range that I am really a fan of, it would have to be Britney. I have tried many other celeb fragrances from Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber but they all seemed too sweet and fruity for my liking and I have never felt the urge to repurchase it. I have kind of been on a roll here on the blog, scouting out the most affordable options in beauty products and today will be no different. I haven’t done a fragrance review on the blog in years, so today I thought that I would give a go at it again.

I don’t know if you’ve recently taken a look at the price of perfume… EXPENSIVE! If you’re like me and can do with some saving then today’s blog post is for you. If you want a long lasting fragrance at the fraction on the price then I would suggest you continue reading. I feel like fragrance mists are the perfect alternative to perfumes and cost the fraction of the price. In the beginning of last month I strolled through Edgars stores and saw that they had quite a decent size range of fragrance mists on offer – that ranged between R199.00 – R270.00 . Affordable, right? right! I then picked up the Britney Spears – Fantasy Fine Fragrance Mist.city-girl-vibe-x-britney-spears-fine-fragrance-mist-in-fantasyBoth my sister and I have been using this fragrance mist, edging for two months now and as you can tell the bottle is still quite full. Surprisingly, a little goes a long way. I have sprayed my jerseys and jackets with this mist and the following time that I have used the item of clothing, the fragrance was still present. The mist is definitely not as potent as a perfume, eau de parfum or eau de toilette but it definitely packs a punch. I feel like it is the perfect transition into perfume from using body sprays.

This is quite a fruity scent but not the kind that makes my sinuses act up. I do however feel like it is a tad bit too “sweet” for me at times. The top notes of this fragrance mist is litchi, kiwi and golden quince. The middle notes are orchid, jasmine and white chocolate. The base notes can be described as orris root, musk and woods. I prefer spritzing this mist on a little while before leaving the house as I feel like this mist smells better after a while, once the fragrance settled in.city-girl-vibe-x-britney-spears-fine-fragrance-mist-fantasyIf this fragrance mist was in Britney’s “Curious” scent, then this would be a rave review as that is my most loved perfume to come from her. I don’t want to be reaching but this fragrance smells almost (if not identical) to Katy Perry’s “meow” perfume. Just less intense as it is a mist. I am a huge fan of how this product disperse out of the bottle, over the desired area. It focuses the mist over the entire area instead of on one area.

This fragrance mist is explained as: “Britney Spears has the power of an enchantress whose life is a modern fairy tale… complete with a happy ending. Fantasy BRITNEY SPEARS™ is about love’s ability to overwhelm you when you least expect it. Fantasy BRITNEY SPEARS is for the woman who is Seductive, Charming and Elusive.”

In my personal opinion, I feel like this mist is definitely for the younger market and not so much for the mature female. Definitely give this mist a spritz when you come across it. This fine fragrance mist retails for R250.00. I don’t feel like I would repurchase this mist based solely on personal preference to a scent and not the quality of the product. To me, a fragrance is a personal thing and this was just not fitting for me. As soons as I finish this bottle, I will most likely try one of the other fine fragrance mists on offer.

{Review} Affordable body lotion range from Mixa

Now that the warmer weather is starting to roll around, I have decided to switch up my body care routine and opted for something lighter on the skin as opposed to my winter favourite from Himalaya Herbals. I wanted something not as thick and I usually prefer a body lotion over a body butter type of consistency in summer. I then discovered the French brand named “Mixa” and of course I was intrigued, especially after reading that it is designed for sensitive skin.

This brand launched in South Africa a few months back, so it is fairly new to the South African market but one thing that I can tell you is that it is already a firm favourite. Affordable skincare is hard to come by in SA but this is one brand that has you covered. city-girl-vibe-x-mixa-range-of-body-lotionsIn the Mixa range available in SA, there’s a selection of body lotions, body creams and a  repair balm. Today I will be reviewing the restoring body lotion for very dry skin and the anti-dryness body lotion for dry skin. Perfect for us just coming out of the cold winter months.

Both body lotions comes in a 250ml pump bottle for R45.99 and then you can also purchase the 400ml bottle for R59.99. See? Affordability at its best! The anti-dryness body lotion is enriched with coriander oil but you definitely can’t pick it up in the scent of the lotion. The product has a “clean” and fresh smell to it which makes it quite easy and pleasant to use and wear. city-girl-vibe-x-mixa-body-lotion-for-dry-skinTo be completely honest, I cannot tell the difference between the two lotions. Both smell and feel the same. I have placed one bottle in the bathroom in my home for everyone to enjoy and the other one next to my bedside table so that it forms part of my night time routine or random hand lotion application.

If you’re anything like me and stand as human mosquito bate then you would know the burning and itchy sensation that the bites leave, I have used this religiously on those pesky little bites and I cannot even begin to describe how soothing it is on the skin. I dab a tad bit on the spot and massage it in and I won’t have to pick and scratch at it again.city-girl-vibe-x-mixa-body-lotion-for-very-dry-skinI have mentioned before that I suffer from mild eczema only behind my ears, with occasional flare ups along my hairline, eyebrows and scalp, with that being said – I wouldn’t dare applying any body lotion behind my ears to relieve the itchy and flakiness.  A few weeks back when my skin decided to wreak havoc, especially behind my ears, I decided to dab just a tad bit behind my ear with a cotton swab and I was pleasantly surprised to see and feel how well my skin reacted to this body lotion. There was no irritation or left over residue left behind. The area behind my ear(s) felt moisturized and there was no flaking!

I am not quite sure if I can use this body lotions on my face so I won’t be that risky, I will pop the Cica Repair Balm from Mixa in my basket the next time I go to Clicks to see how it works. I have however brushed the body lotion through my eyebrows with a spoolie when it became flakey and it didn’t irritate the area. Also – it worked wonders taming my brows! 😀 city-girl-vibe-x-mixa-body-lotion-consistencyThe formula is the perfect consistency to what I like in a body lotion. Not very runny but not very thick either. I pump a generous amount onto my hands and just go to town with it – all over my body. It absorbs into the skin effortlessly and doesn’t leave you feeling greasy… which means you can get dressed after your bath/shower and not wait around for your product to dry down.

The full range of Mixa products can be found either online at Clicks (and in store), Takealot, Zando and in stores at Pick n Pay.

In my opinion, it is a brand totally worth your coin! Have you tried anything from Mixa before?

Empties #6

I am so surprised to be hitting “publish” on an empties post seeing that I blogged about my empties not too long ago. I usually take about 6 months – to a year to finish products but ever since July, I really do have more time to invest in my skin, hair and makeup. I started my empties journey back in 2014 when I promised myself that I wouldn’t open another product (in the same category) unless my current one is finished. For those that are new to the concept of empties posts, it is basically a run down of beauty products that I have used from start to finish – where I let you darlings know which products I would repurchase or not. city-girl-vibe-emptiesToday is such a sad day for both my beauty and makeup collection. Some of these products are my most loved, used and recommended. If you look at how beat up the packaging is, you can definitely tell that I used the heck out of these products. Usually with my empties posts I would tell my readers what I would or wouldn’t repurchase again but this time around, this round of empties are all on my repurchase list.

L.A PRO conceal HD concealer

First up is the L.A PRO conceal HD concealer. I haven’t reviewed this concealer on my blog because quite frankly, it is a cult favourite and there’s hundreds and hundreds of reviews of this concealer online. I have been using this concealer for more than 8 months and I only finished it now, it’s that good! I think I paid round about R59 for it at Dischem. This concealer in my opinion is the best concealer at the drug store and is the most affordable concealer that I have ever used. I have seen so many international Youtubers use this and comment on how it trumps many higher end brands. There are days where I don’t feel like wearing foundation, I will then apply some of this concealer under my eyes and dab it in with my beauty sponge, just to hide those dark circles and it works like a charm! The formulation is super creamy and easy to blend. Would I repurchase this? Absolutely.

Hean Sculpting Facial Palette City Girl Vibe Hean sculpting facial palette and mattense lipstickI have had this palette for almost 2 years and it had three of my most loved items in it. I used the heck out of this palette the moment I received it from the darlings over at Glamore. If you look in my empties bin, you will see just how much I loved this palette. I did a full review on this palette and even used it in two tutorials on the blog. It is worth every cent and is one of those items that are perfect for people just getting into makeup or even people that are on the lookout for quality makeup products. Btw – it is also your perfect travel companion.

H&M Black Volume Mascaraimg_4205This mascara is one of my faves in my collection. I received my first H&M Black Volume Mascara from Deslé a while back it remains one of the very few mascaras that is perfect for my sensitive eyes. I am not sure if this is available here in SA as she bought it in the Middle East and I was so happy when a family member managed to get it for me again. I have a full review of this mascara on my blog if you’re keen for a read?

Britney Spears Curious Fragrance

Just last week I mentioned how much of a fan I am for Britney’s perfumes. Curious is by far my favourite one. In last week’s post I mentioned how I am not a fan of celebrity fragrances but for some reason this one just ticks all of the right boxes. I love everything about this fragrance, from the design of the bottle – to the fragrance itself. This is high on my purchase list.

Jet Just Be Gorgeous Foundationcity-girl-vibe-jet-just-be-gorgeous-foundation-in-bronzeThis foundation appeared on the blog many times before and if you take a looksee in my empties bin then you would see that I have two tubes of this foundation. I popped into Jet over the weekend and I was bummed to see that they didn’t have it in stock. I don’t think that they stock this foundation anymore but I did see a different foundation from this line. If you want to read a full review on this foundation then just click here.  This foundation is the perfect everyday work/university foundation. If you’re a girl just switching over from BB cream or tinted moisturizer then this product would be perfect for you.

Pond’s White Beauty Pearl Cleansing Gelcity-girl-vibe-x-ponds-white-beauty-pearl-cleansing-gelI blogged about this cleansing gel not too long ago and I would’ve loved to get my hands on this product again but I can’t find it in any of our stores. I really do burn through facial cleaners super fast and I am already onto a new one that I am testing out for a review in the near future. I did a full review on this product a month or so ago, click here if you’re keen to give it a read. This was really a great everyday cleanser that was super gentle on the skin and that smells really good and high end.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundationcity-girl-vibe-rimmel-lasting-finish-foundation-in-shade-sand-beigeSo it seems like I may be running out of foundation and I am in the market for a new drugstore foundation. I can however tell you that this one ranks in my top 3 best foundations that I have ever used. This will most probably be the next foundation that I buy again and if you read my review then you would see why I love this foundation so much. It gives me great coverage and doesn’t clog my pores. I would highly recommend this foundation to anyone looking for a new foundation.

Garnier Hydra-Adapt, Hydra-Match: Dull and tired skinCity Girl Vibe Garnier Hydra Adapt and Hydra MatchI am just gonna come out and say it… this was the best facial product in my skincare routine that my face have and ever will experience. Over the months, my skin has really come to love this moisturizer. My skin drinks it up and it is like an injection of moisture into the skin. I can’t seem to find this product online anymore (only the others in the range) but I really do want this one. I am not giving up though! I did a full review on this product. If I don’t find this exact product again, I will most likely give one of the other products in the range a try.

Avon Ideal Flawless Liquid Concealercity-girl-vibe-x-avon-matte-flawless-concealer-applicatorYes, there is another concealer in my empties bin and I am happy to be using all of my products. This is another product that I have featured on the blog before. I will give you a quick run down on this concealer; if you’re an oily skin girl like me then you would love this concealer. It is super full coverage and does a bomb a$$ job at filling those pores, highlighting those under eye area and forehead and covering up bags/blemishes and redness. This concealer sits really nice on the skin and I find it works best when blended in with a beauty sponge.

So that is it for my current empties. Now it is time for me chuck out all of my empty containers… until some new ones accumulate. As you can see I am out of foundation and concealer, any recommendations on drugstore brands?

{Review} Gentle Magic: The Skincare Mask

$

Just the other day I gave you darlings a looksee into my Spring Faves and this product made its first appearance in that post. This is the first product out of the Gentle Magic range that I have ever tried and there aren’t many reviews available online. I stumbled upon this mask a few weeks ago when I did my monthly toiletries shopping at Clicks and decided to pop it into my basket because it seemed somewhat intriguing in regards to colour, micro beads in the mask and it’s claims.

Now obviously I wasn’t expecting a miracle product (even though the brand’s name has the word ‘magic’ in it :D) because if I remember correctly, I paid under R40 for it. If you’re not familiar with the Gentle Magic brand, it is locally made and produced right here in SA and seems to be a firm favourite amongst South African women. While I was researching the brand, I read quite a few reviews of other products in the range where people made some scary claims such as GM products lightening their skin and causing some irritation. city-girl-vibe-x-gentle-magic-the-skincare-maskBefore I get into the reviewing part of this post, let me put your mind at ease and just quickly mention that I haven’t experienced any of those symptoms/results since using this product for almost a month. The thing with skincare and beauty products is that it is a very personal thing. We all have different skin types and needs. What I may seek in a product, may differ from yours.

I have mentioned previously that my skin has shifted to a more oilier type over the past year or so and I have been battling with texture and enlarged pores for almost 2 years. Finding a product that was gentle enough on my overly sensitive skin and will do the perfect job at combatting the oils on my skin is TOUGH! city-girl-vibe-x-gentle-magic-the-skincare-mask-reviewFirstly, as the name suggests – this product is extremely gentle on the skin. I have been using it every day for the past month (or so) and it really didn’t affect my skin whatsoever. Girls with oily skin – this product is for you! I use this product in the morning in conjunction with my gel moisturiser and I cannot even begin to describe the huge difference its made in the way that my foundation now sits and blends into the skin.

I use this product as more of a cleanser than a mask because the instructions tells you to wear it for ±30 seconds/1 minute and I prefer wearing my face masks longer. This mask is perfect for extracting all of those excess oils without stripping the skin from its natural oils. From the first use, you can actually feel the difference in your skin. My skin felt alot smoother, my face wasn’t shiny and I didn’t have any flaking along my hairline and brows – which is something I experience with my skin condition. city-girl-vibe-x-gentle-magic-the-skincare-mask-formulationThe consistency of this mask is quite creamy and doesn’t lather up. I usually just massage into the skin in circular motions and then rinse my face with lukewarm water. On the packaging/tube it states that this mask is an exfoliating facial scrub but I don’t find it nearly abrasive enough as the microbeads in the mask is just not sufficient. If I had to describe the fragrance of this mask, so that you can associate it to something – then I would say that it smells ‘soapy’ and fresh. The microbeads in the mask is Jojoba beads which is known to promote more of a healthier and radiant glow. The mask also has Kaolin clay in it which most probably explains the texture and ‘tight’ feeling I feel on my face when I use it. I don’t really have pigmentation problems but I have noticed a major difference in the complexion of my skin as my face is more evened out. This product however isn’t helping with my enlarged pores – so the hunt for the ‘perfect’ product continues.

Personally, I love the Gentle Magic Skincare Mask and will most probably repurchase it again. There is nothing else in the range that really stands out or appeals to me, so for now this product will be my ‘go to’ product in the range. Have you tried anything from the Gentle Magic range?

{Review} Clean & Clear – Blackhead Clearing Daily Scrub

It feels like I haven’t done a beauty review in ages, so I decided to hop on my pc and tell you about this product that I have been using for about two months. Now let me just say that this product is not new on the market and I have seen it at Clicks for years but I am somebody that doesn’t like to use alot of skincare products at once so I just didn’t pop it into my basket.

I have really been trying to up my skincare game for the past four months and I decided to give this blackhead clearing scrub a go because I have noticed a drastic increase in blackheads on my middle cheek area. I have been using the Gentle Magic skincare mask as well but it just didn’t do such a great job at removing blackheads as it did acting like a daily cleanser.city-girl-vibe-x-clean-clear-blackhead-clearing-daily-scrub1Let’s get into the reviewing, this daily scrub retails for R59.95 at Clicks and I think that it is quite affordable. Now if you’re a regular reader then you would know that if I don’t like a product AT ALL or if the product didn’t work for me one bit, then I won’t post about it on the blog (purchased with my own money or sent to me). Now speaking honestly, if you have enlarged and clogged pores then this blackhead clearing scrub is not going to work for you.

Like I mentioned, I have used this scrub for two months and I still have some stubborn blackheads that I just can’t extract with this scrub. Why post about it you may ask? If you have very oily skin – especially an oily t-zone, then you would love this product. This scrub does such a great job at eliminating excess oils from your face without making your face feel stripped from its natural oils. If you also feel like your makeup isn’t ‘sitting’ well on your face because of it’s oily nature then this is a great scrub to use before you apply your makeup.city-girl-vibe-x-clean-clear-blackhead-clearing-daily-scrub-reviewIn my last skincare product review, I mentioned that texture has always been one of my biggest skincare concerns and since I started using this product I haven’t had any texture issues and my foundation blends and sits on the skin beautifully. This scrub is also perfect for people with sensitive skin. It has no fragrance in it and it didn’t irritate my face one bit. I simply squeeze a decent amount of product onto my fingers, massage it into my damp skin (face) in a circular motion for quite a while and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Even though this scrub doesn’t 100% fit the bill as a blackhead remover, it works great as a facial exfoliator to remove dead skin cells. The microbeads works perfectly to give you a more evened out complexion and skin surface. I do however feel like this scrub is not gentle enough to use everyday so I prefer using it every second day. I love how well this product works on my skin and I also have seen a huge reduction in flaking along my brow area since using this scrub.

{Review} Amz Loves: Happy Hands – Hand & Nail Cream

The other day I was in a full on shopping spree on the Dischem website after I discovered that they accepted PayPal. While adding a few items to my cart, I had about a R30 left and looked for something affordable/new that I haven’t tried before and that is when I got introduced to a new brand that I am so eager to explore further.

Now before I get into introducing this brand to you and telling you a little more of what they offer, just know that this product that I purchased was definitely a spur of the moment item and I may have been drawn to the product because of it’s beautiful packaging. The product that I will be reviewing today is a hand and nail cream duo from a local brand called Amz Loves. Not too long ago I reviewed the Cath Kidston hand cream and of course me justifying my purchases, decided that the one tube will go in my handbag and the other in my car. Okay. Let’s leave it at that.city-girl-vibe-x-amz-loves-happy-hands-hand-and-nail-creamWhen I received my online order, I saw the name of the brand and hopped online to see what the brand was all about as I haven’t seen any reviews of it before. The brand launched to the SA market just a few weeks ago and I have a feeling that SA consumers are going to love it. They have a huge variety of the most beautiful bath and body products, candles, lip scrubs… the works! The best thing about their products are that they are super affordable and I can guarantee you that you won’t leave their website without having something on your wishlist. Times like this I am really angry that Cape Town is going through a drought because you would fall in love with their range of beautiful bath bombs, tea bags, milks, fizzers, crystals, foam baths and salts. Before you read any further – you may want to take a looksee at their packaging over here.

So I purchased my hand and nail cream from the Dischem website but Amz Loves has their own website where they sell their goodies from and has a wider variety of products on offer. As well as jewellery and accessories. city-girl-vibe-x-amz-loves-happy-hands-hand-and-nail-cream-reviewBack to the reviewing part of this post. I got a nail file with my hand and nail cream and it comes in handy especially after I cut my nails and feel like I need a little reshaping and smoothing as I am not a fan of long nails (on myself). I chose the macaroon scented cream and it really does smell exactly like macaroons. The scent is long lasting on your hands and every now and again I get a whiff of it when I am going about my day. What I love about the scent is that it is noticeable and long lasting but not headache inducing.

The consistency and texture of this hand and nail cream is more on the runnier side and I am good with that as I find that the thicker consistency in a hand cream tend to leave my hands with a greasy film afterward. The product soaks into my hands effortlessly and you don’t require much product to leave your hands feeling hydrated. I haven’t being experiencing any dry cuticles or hangnails thank G*d since using my Cath Kidston cuticle cream so I can’t attest if this product helps with that but what I can tell you is that it is a lovely summer scent to have lingering on your hands.city-girl-vibe-x-amz-loves-happy-hands-hand-and-nail-cream-review1As I mentioned, I am a huge fan of the brand’s packaging and I love the tube that this cream comes in because when I get to the last few drops of this product then I won’t have to cut the tube open. Christmas time is coming up and I feel like this product (and some of their other products) would make stunning stocking fillers or Secret Santa gifts. Would I recommend this product to anybody? Definitely!

{Review} Head & Shoulders – Instant Relief Spray

$

Currently my scalp is going through the gigs. I usually have a ‘problematic’ scalp when the season changes but we have been well into spring/summer and I haven’t introduced any new products into my haircare routine, so I digress. This means that I have to wash my hair more regularly (but not overwash) in order to prevent my scalp flaking and flake buildup. I have mentioned before that I have very mild eczema on my scalp and with the proper products, I can actually keep the flaking at bay. Today I will share one of those products that makes that job just a little bit easier.

Last week I told you darlings that I went a little overboard on the Dischem website when I was doing some online shopping and one of the products that I happen to pop into my cart was this instant relief spray from Head & Shoulders. I have been using Head & Shoulders shampoo for YEARS, so adding this product to my cart was a no brainer. This instant relief spray is labeled as ‘African scalp & hair care’, which is part of their hair care range that was released in 2016 – specifically designed for women of colour. city-girl-vibe-x-head-shoulders-african-scalp-hair-care-_-instant-relief-sprayThis scalp spray comes in the menthol variant, which I love and if you squint closely in the above picture then you would see that the menthol variant shampoo is my go-to Head & Shoulders product. Just a quick headsup: The menthol variant is not for everyone as it can leave a burning sensation on the scalp. Me on the other hand? I find it quite soothing for my scalp and it relieves the itching that I experience from time to time.

On the instructions at the back of the bottle, it states that you should use the instant relief spray everyday but to be completely honest – I only use it when I “need it”. I wash my hair every 3 days and on day 2 I will spray this onto my scalp and then massage it in. I can feel it soothing my scalp instantly and relieving the itchiness. It also does a great job at moisturizing dry areas, which I have even experienced along my hairline. This is a leave-in product so you don’t wash it out of your hair. This product is also not a substitute for washing your hair and it’s not going to work its magic if your hair is not clean and has dandruff build up caused by your hair needing a good o’l washing. city-girl-vibe-x-head-shoulders-african-scalp-hair-care-_-instant-relief-spray-reviewI love love love the scent of this spray. It smells exactly like the shampoo and it just gives your hair this nice burst of freshness. You get a whiff of it the entire day and it doesn’t fade into nothing. Even though it is a scalp moisturizing product, I didn’t find it to make my hair greasy at all and I have greasy hair to begin with (even one day after washing it). Surprisingly I only have mild eczema on my scalp, eyebrows and behind my years and I am grateful that I don’t have it as severe as alot of people do and having a product like this to relieve some of that itchiness is a true gem.

The little nozzle on the bottle spritz the product quite concentratedly on the area that you focus it so you won’t be left with product spraying everywhere. Seeing that I have eczema in my brows, I like spritzing a tiny bit of this instant relief spray onto my brows and ruffing it through – especially at night before going to bed. I paid around R60-R70 for the 95ml bottle and you might feel like it is pricey but believe me when I say that it is absolutely worth it!

Lippies I’m loving at the moment #6

In mid September I did a roundup of all my favourite lippies but heck, I have been in such good luck with discovering new products lately. With my top picks this time around, I definitely went back to my bold lipstick roots. I can’t resist a good bold lippie when I see it. As always, my choices are quite affordable and there is something for everyone. All of the lip products that I am featuring today are currently in stores as I have purchased it in the past ±3 weeks. I have been using these products in rotation and together and they really are some great products.city-girl-vibe-x-favourite-lippies-at-the-momentFor my lippie choices today I have two lipsticks, two tinted lip-balms and a clear lip-balm. I decided to choose five products under R50. These are all products that I haven’t used before but the Lip Ice brand is definitely a firm favourite of mine since primary school. First up…

Lip Ice – Summer Meloncity-girl-vibe-x-lipice-summer-melonOn my recent Dischem haul I picked up this Lip Ice lip-balm in the summer melon variant. I thought that it was such a perfect and seasonal appropriate fragrance and name. I have done a full review on quite a few Lip-Ice products that I received a few years ago but this is a new one that I haven’t tried yet. This lip-balm is super hydrating as we’ve come to know and love the Lip Ice brand to be. It smells sweet and fruity and has a slight tint to it. I love wearing it over a nude matte lipstick when I feel like I need a little moisture in my lips. I paid R22.95 for it and I think that it is quite affordable for a good quality lip product.

Just Be Gorgeous Matte Lipstick in the shade Cherry Colacity-girl-vibe-x-just-be-gorgeous-lipstick-in-cherry-colaThis is a lipstick that I picked up at Fashion World a few weeks back. If I had to choose one shade that I had to wear on my lips forever, this would be it. This ‘Just Be Gorgeous’ range is not the same as the one that is stocked at Jet. I haven’t worn a matte lipstick in a hot minute and I have to say that this may be the best matte lipstick that I have ever tried… or at least in the top 3. It is quite comfortable on the lips and very pigmented. I have worn it for hours and I always get a even fade from it – without it looking patchy or flaky. I can’t remember the exact price that I paid for it but it was under R20. This lippie has a purple undertone to it and it definitely makes for the perfect vampy lip. It may not be a “summer appropriate” lip but I am living for it! The scent of it reminds me of strawberry chewing gum, but it’s not very pungent and it fades when on the lips.

Lip Ice – Strawberry Sorbetcity-girl-vibe-x-strawberry-sorbetI am in love with this range of Lip-Ice lip-balms. This is another one of my Dischem haul products that I also picked up for R22.95. I don’t think that this is a new release but all of the names in this range is quite “summery”. Strawberry sorbet gives your lips the most beautiful hydrating burst of pink colour. It looks great worn on it’s own or even over a very drying red lipstick. This lip-balm smells exactly like the strawberry Labello and I love love love it as the strawberry Labello remains my top lip-balm of all time. I see this as the perfect lip product for when you’re running errands and don’t feel like faffing about with a lipstick or lipgloss.

Just Be Gorgeous – Red Matte Lipstickcity-girl-vibe-x-just-be-gorgeous-red-lipstickSo I can’t remember the name of this lippie shade as I yanked off the sticker with the name on it the day that I got it. If you want to see what it looks like on the lips then you can check out my “What’s in my staycation bag” post. I bought this lipstick at Fashion World as well. I stand by my word that every girl should own at least one red lipstick. This lippie – just like the other JBG lippie is quite long wearing and pigmented. It gives your lips a smooth finish and doesn’t settle in the fine lines of your lips as most matte lipsticks do. This is a straight up red lippie and I feel like it could be universally flattering on most skin types. Definitely give Fashion World’s beauty section a closer look. There are some amazing gems.

Dexe Pineapple Lip-balmcity-girl-vibe-x-dexe-lipbalmThis lippie I picked up at Dischem as well. This can apparently be a dupe for EOS lip-balms. This is my first sphere shaped balm and I was quite eager to give it a go because I’ve never tried a pineapple scented lip-balm before. Not only did they get the scent spot on but it actually tastes like pineapple as well. I love the hydration that it gives my lips and I prefer wearing it at night. When you wake up in the morning you can actually feel your lips feeling alot smoother and if you’re a lipstick wearer like me, it makes for great overnight priming for a matte lippie. At the fraction of the price of an EOS lip-balm, this retails for R17.95. I must admit, at first opening this balm was quite a mission. I thought that it needed to be pinched off but alas… it’s a turning contraption. Also, whoever sees this and isn’t familiar with EOS is so intrigued by the packaging. Yep, it’s a crowd pleaser and I am a fan of it.

That’s a wrap up of all my fave lip products! Have you tried any of them before?

{Review} Essence – Strobing & Contouring Palette.

You guys, I am totally new (and late on the gravy train) to this strobing thing. It’s been around for a hot minute but I didn’t seem too interested in this trend because to be completely honest… I am not into the dewy look. I am more of a matte girl because of my oily skin type and with this strobing thing, you’re powder usage on your face should be kept to a minimum. Me on the other hand? You know how much I love my powders and baking.

Nonetheless, another one of my beauty purchases that I ended up picking up with my recent Dischem haul is this strobing and contouring palette from Essence. Wowzer! I haven’t bought or reviewed Essence products on my blog in a hot minute and I remember that Essence and Catrice used to be my holy grail brands to review when I just started out blogging 8 years ago. Not only are the products super affordable but they are great, great, great quality – for the most part. city-girl-vibe-x-essence-strobing-and-contouring-palette-reviewUp until a couple of weeks ago when I started using this palette, I had no idea what the difference was between strobing and highlighting. I came across this nifty little article that explained it to a T and even a YT video of Wayne Goss explaining it. With the strobing, you typically want the dewy look so you have to be well moisturized before you put the product on. Wayne also explained that the strobing product is applied on the exact same places where you would apply your highlighter but with strobing you have to apply the strobe product before you do your foundation.

I’m not gonna lie, it’s alot of extra steps that alot of people don’t need or have time for but I lowkey am a fan of it and if you’re a beginner to this strobing thing and then this palette is definitely for you. I even use this palette for alot more things than strobing and contouring. I am not a fan of the a dewy look but for some reason I do like it when I use this palette and I don’t look overly powdery or ‘wet’ at all. Just well moisturized, glowy and foundation sitting pretty.city-girl-vibe-x-essence-strobing-and-contouring-paletteOkay now let’s get into the reviewing, this creamy textured products applies smoothly and for strobing for my skin tone I like mixing in the last two shades from the right in the top row. I tried buffing it into my skin with both a brush and a beauty sponge but I find that the beauty sponge works better because the brush tends to move the product around too much and leave it sitting on the skin. What I loved about the top row shades is that my current foundation that I am using, applies over the product so smoothly and you don’t end up with foundation bunching up where the product is.

I use the second and the third shade in the top row (mixed) as concealer over my foundation. I must admit, I don’t like looking super glowy and as Wayne demonstrated in his tutorial – you don’t powder much over your strobing but I tend to set the concealer with powder and this is the first “concealer” that I have EVER used that have not creased under my eyes. I use the second last shade in the top row as highlight over my foundation and it adds a stunning slight glow. I also love using the first three shades from the left as an eye-shadow primer. I set it with a little bit of translucent powder and it makes a really great base for eye-shadow and it lasts super long!city-girl-vibe-x-essence-strobing-and-contouring-top-row-swatchesThe bottom row in this palette is obviously for contouring. If you like a subtle contour then you will be a fan of this palette. The bottom row (just like the top row) is not very pigmented but it is definitely buildable. I also apply these contour shades over my foundation and then blend it out with a beauty sponge because I feel when I use a more dense kabuki brush, it moves the product around too much and it can end up looking muddy.

I have this one neutral tone shimmer eye-shadow palette in my collection that has the most flattering shades of browns for my skin-tone but the only drawback is that it is a tad powdery. I then started using the bottom three shades from the left side and put it on my eyelids (without setting it) and then pat the shades on to make it stick. It was a brilliant idea… even if I have to say so myself! I only use the second last shade on the right as my contour on my cheeks, forehand and nose. I prefer the second last shade as my contour as it is more warm toned and suitable for my skin-tone, whereas the last shade is more cool toned.city-girl-vibe-x-essence-strobing-and-contouring-bottom-row-swatchesIn my opinion, this palette is more suited for light to medium skin-tones as the second last shade in the palette for contouring is my perfect shade and that being said – I am in the middle of fair and medium toned. I do however think that the last shade in the strobing row would look bomb AF on a deeper skin tone. This palette retails for R150 and I think that it is super affordable. I have seen international Youtubers call it a dupe for beginners for the NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette. All in all… I love the versatility of this palette and I am definitely one of those people that advocates that there are no rules in makeup such as “you can’t mix creams with powders”. I did it and I think it looks absolutely great. Or maybe I am just a noob but it WORKS FOR ME.

Ps I unfortunately don’t have a ‘face-look’ picture of it on my face but all of the pictures on my sm that I recently uploaded, I am wearing it. I will take a picture this weekend when I attend one of my blogging gigs and then make reference to this review when I upload next week.

{Review} Revlon Colorsilk at home hair dye kit + Before – After pictures.

As you read the title of this post, cringing at the fact that I dye my hair at home… yes! I am fearless like that. I am an avid at home hair colorist (colourist, if you’re South African) and I have been doing it FOR YEARS. Let me just slow down a little bit so that I can tell you why I decided to dye my hair this time. In 2017 my hair really took a good beating. I went from my natural ashy brown hair, to red, then blonde, then back to red and then my hair tapped out for the count. To be completely honest, my hair tapped out at the blonde already. At the time I thought that blonde was a good idea and Thank G** I didn’t do the job myself or else it would’ve been a catastrophe. The thing with the blonde situation is that it looked stunning but my hair didn’t feel healthy. Breakage was another problem.city-girl-vibe-x-revlon-colorsilk-hair-dye-review Sometime in 2017, I decided to cut my hair and for majority of 2018 I spent the time trying to get my hair healthy again. After months of being so tempted to colour my hair, I decided to try out the Colorsilk range from Revlon. I don’t usually use just any brand of hair dye because I have had my fair share off eff ups with even expensive brands but because I am a firm believer in the Revlon brand, I decided to give this at home kit a go. To give you an idea of my natural hair colour and how my hair got to this shade, this is what my hair colour was before I dyed it.

I used to use no other at home hair colour kit besides Schwarzkopf Palette Deluxe and I know you probably shouldn’t be putting a price on your hair but it was getting a tad bit pricey. I then stumbled upon this range and decided to give it a go. For my length and strand of thickness, I bought two boxes and there was alot of dye left but I slathered my hair in the remaining dye. I paid about R60 per box when Pick n Pay had their 2 for 1 special and I thought that it was quite a huge bargain and the perfect time to test it out.

I am not completely sure what “3D Color Gel Technology” is but apparently that is used in the dye. If you’re looking to cover those stubborn gray hairs, this kit promises to do just that!

city-girl-vibe-x-revlon-colorsilk-hair-dye-in-shade-51-ligthbrownVoila! This is how it turned out. In direct sunlight, my hair looks way more vibrant and shiny. I have to say that I am mighty impressed by the colour pay off. I dyed my hair a month ago and wanted to wait until I reviewed this kit in order to see if the colour faded and I am happy to report that it didn’t fade at all. I only have some slight regrowth at the root and will most likely do a touch up sometime next month. This hair dye is also enriched with apple extract.

Now for the big question: Does my hair feel ‘different’? To be quite frank, when my hair is wet (after shampooing), it definitely feels drier in terms of texture but as soon as I put on conditioner, my hair feels silky smooth and easily detangled. I have not experienced any breakage or my hair falling out like when I had the blonde.city-girl-vibe-x-revlon-colorsilk-hair-dye-51-light-brown-reviewcity-girl-vibe-x-revlon-colorsilk-hair-dye-in-shade-light-brownI would suggest you get a good conditioner if you decide to use this kit because your hair can feel quite dry if not well moisturized. I am currently using the Revlon Flex – Balance conditioner with silk and keratin protein. It gives your hair a healthy shine and strengthens your hair. It is not a colour protecting conditioner but I found it to be the only conditioner to make my hair feel nourished. The best thing about the Revlon Flex conditioner? It retails for under R30!

If you want an idea of what my hair looks like in direct sunlight, you can look at my 4 second video at the Halls event. Would I recommend the Revlon Colorsilk range? Absolutely!

{Review} Mini Oh So Heavenly Haul

Back in the day when I just started blogging, Oh So Heavenly used to be my go to brand that I purchased to review on the blog. Heck, Oh So Heavenly used to be my “lifesaver brand”  when it came to birthday gifts, mothers day presents and any other occasion that my student budget allowed for in terms of gifting. I wanted to share with you darlings, a quick few products that I think is the perfect gift for your teen daughter, sister, cousin or even making the perfect stocking stuffer for Christmas. city-girl-vibe-x-oh-so-heavenly-haulIf you’re too afraid to venture out into shopping malls right now, you can shop online at Clicks – which is also the only stockist of the Oh So Heavenly brand. The reason why I think this particular selection of OSH products would be the perfect gift for a teenage girl/college student is because it smells quite sweet and definitely the kind of scent I was into when I was a tad younger. I feel like more mature women won’t appreciate this type of scent as it is more ‘playful’. I could be wrong. Enough with the rambling, the first product that I will be reviewing is…

Double The Yum Body Washcity-girl-vibe-x-oh-so-heavenly-body-washIf you love bubble gum scented products then you are going to be a huge fan of this fragrance. It really does smell exactly like bubble gum and it lingers for a long time. This is the type of body wash that I think makes for a lovely night’s sleep after a hot shower. I prefer this type of scents when going to bed at night. I squeeze a generous amount of this body wash onto my loofer and wash my body in circular motions in order to lather the product up. This body wash is also very moisturising on the skin but it works even better with the body lotion. It’s summer time in South Africa and no one wants to walk around with ashy legs and arms, right? right! This product retails for R23.00.

Sweet Life Waterless Hand Cleansercity-girl-vibe-x-oh-so-heavenly-sweet-life-waterless-hand-cleanseIf you’re from Cape Town or have visited in the past year then you would know that we are currently in a drought. This has forced us to take drastic measures in terms of saving water and nifty products like this make this process easier. It’s a bonus when it smells this good. This waterless hand cleanser is such a handbag staple and if you’re not a handbag wearer, keep one of these on deck when you’re in your car or even at your desk. I remember Oh So Heavenly hand sanitizers being one of the first products that I ever tried from the brand and it still remains one of my favourites. All I do is squeeze a pea size amount onto my hands and have my hands smelling refreshed and feeling clean. My hands don’t feel sticky at all and what I love about this cleanser is that it doesn’t smell very acidic or like my hands are drenched in alcohol as with most waterless cleansers like this. This product retails for R17.99 and you’re guaranteed 70 uses from one 90ml bottle.

Candy Carnival Foam Bathcity-girl-vibe-x-oh-so-heavenly-candy-carnival-foam-bathIf you don’t like using the little bottles of body washes that you get in hotels, then I think this foam bath will be the perfect companion for you. The foam bath however doesn’t lather up as much as the body wash but I love using this product as a handwash as well. There are definitely foot soaks in the Oh So Heavenly range but this product is another favourite of mine when it comes to my footspa. This foam bath forms part of the carnival candy range which means its supposed to smell like cotton candy but when I smell it, I smell vanilla and strawberry cupcake frosting. Out of all of the scents, this one is my favourite. I am not entirely sure about the price of this product but it retails for under R30 and makes for a great addition to a gift.

Vanilla Delight Indulgent Body Lotioncity-girl-vibe-x-oh-so-heavenly-vanilla-delight-indulgent-body-lotionFor a body lotion, I have to say that this is quite a huge step in another directions when it comes to my type of fragrance. I don’t see this as a day time body lotion (for me personally) as I like more fresher scents and this body lotion would clash with my perfume. What I do love about this body lotion is how hydrating it is. I especially love slathering it all over my legs when I get out of shower and after I shave my legs. I don’t however like this body lotion on my hands as it can get a bit sticky. The proof is absolutely in the name of this body lotion as it smells like delightful vanilla cupcakes from Woolies. This body lotion retails for R24.99.

Candy Carnival Body Creamcity-girl-vibe-x-oh-so-heavenly-candy-carnival-body-creamI have been on this hand lotion gravy train all of 2018 and I find that I have a hand lotion for every living space in my life. One in my car, one in my handbag, one in the bathroom, one on my bedside table… you get where I am going with this? alright. So this may not be a hand lotion per se but is so so so so good for my cuticles and putting moisture back into my hands. At night after I complete the mundane and unglamorous task of doing the dishes I wish I had a dishwasher my hands kind of feel worse for wear. I put a good amount of this all over my hands and I am left with luxurious and super soft hands that smells like I have been eating all the yummy goodies at a carnival. This product is a tad bit more thicker in consistency compared to the body lotion and it has more of a whipped consistency. It retails for R26.99 for a 250ml tub which’ll last you a long time as you don’t require much to hydrate your hands. The same principle applies for using it on the body, it is super hydrating and sinks into the skin effortlessly without leaving it greasy.

Those are my current Oh So Heavenly favourites. I don’t use all of these products at the same time or else I’d smell like a unicorn pooped all over me which sounds so appealing to me but what I do know is that I smell really good when I go to bed at night. My sheets also smell oh so heavenly!… pun intended. There are quite a few really stunning gift ideas in the OSH range such as gifts sets or you can choose a whole bunch of products and make up a gift hamper for a loved one for Christmas. All of the products are extremely affordable and I know if I were to receive OSH products as a Christmas gift then I would be really chuffed.

{Beauty} Summer Favourites

Hello Darlings! Happy New Year! Rather late than never, right? Right. I hope you all eased into the new year with comfort and that 2019 is going to be magical. I am back! You guys, I was holiday-ing so hard and just generally enjoying the summer holidays with my friends and family, that it was really hard to just picture myself behind a screen typing away. I had so much content planned for the December holidays but I only managed to publish a few posts. Not to worry, I will still upload that content, I just need to adjust it a bit and make a few changes by updating it.city-girl-vibe-beauty-summer-favouritesNonetheless, I shopped a lot over my holiday break and I have been loving a few beauty, fashion and lifestyle items. I decided that I wanted to share it on the blog and let you know what’s worth spending your coin on. I divided my favourites into 3 posts (fashion, beauty and lifestyle) and today I will be sharing my fave beauty products with you darlings.

First up are my two most loved matte lipsticks. I featured these two lipsticks in my “lippies I’m love at the moment”. These two lippies are from the ‘Just Be Gorgeous’ range and are super affordable. When I say super affordable, I mean under R20. I did a full review on these two lipsticks last year and I can highly recommend it to you. I am not really a matte lip product kind of girl but the formulation of these lipsticks are definitely up there with the best.city-girl-vibe-x-revolution-life-on-the-dance-floor-vip-paletteSecond up is the Revolution palette. I am not even exaggerating when I say that this is my ultimate palette in my entire collection and if you’re a regular then you would know that I have a lot! If I had to choose just one palette that I would have to use for the rest of my life then it would be this one. The palette is stunning, from the gold glitter packaging on the outside, to the pigmentation and formulation of the shadows itself. I won’t go into too much detail on this palette as I have a full post dedicated to it and a makeup look featuring it. I picked this palette up at Clicks for under R250 and it is worth every little cent.city-girl-vibe-x-warm-heart-makeup-brushesNext up are these two makeup brushes from a brand called ‘Warm Heart’. I have never heard of this brand before but I found this powder brush in 749 and packer brush in 711 at my local Jet store on sale for under R15 each. I definitely don’t need any more brushes in my collection but these brushes were a steal and let’s face it… you can never have too many makeup brushes unless when you have to wash them. These synthetic bristle brushes picks up product beautifully and I haven’t experienced any shedding from it even after a few washes.city-girl-vibe-x-rimmel-lasting-finish-foundationFollowing with my Lasting Finish foundation that I have been using for a year now. This is such an affordable foundation and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good drugstore foundation. As I have been using this foundation for over a year now, I came to the realization that this foundation is not designed for people with oily skin like me but I don’t mind powdering and blotting my face throughout the day, as I really like the finish and medium coverage that this foundation offers. I did a full review on this foundation before, check it out over here. For the life of me; I can’t seem to find my perfect shade and I am somewhat between the shade “medium beige” and “toast”. One pump of each of these shades mixed together and I get my perfect shade. I picked this foundation up at Edgars for R169.city-girl-vibe-x-mesmerize-bedazelled-brows-paletteAnother palette that I picked up at Jet was this ‘Mezmerize’ palette. I grabbed this palette on a whim as it was quite affordable and the shades just ‘spoke to me’. You can’t get a full look out of this palette as there are only satin shimmers in this palette and no matte shades. I can however tell you that the shadows in the palette can be comparable to some of my higher end shadows. There is a tiny bit of fallout when using this palette with a brush but I find that when I pat these shadows on the lid with my finger, I get little-to-no fallout. I am obviously not a fan of the type of applicator that you find in this palette but it doesn’t bother me as I don’t usually use any of the applicators that I get with my palettes. Another pro about this mini palette is that it is not tested on animals. YAY!!!city-girl-vibe-x-ponds-white-beauty-pearl-cleansing-gelAnother product that I have blogged about previously is this face wash from Ponds. I have found a store that imports it and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg as retailed by Wantitall. This facewash to me is the perfect gentle face wash for summer, that doesn’t irritate my skin and is quite effective. It smells really good and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. Even though it is effective, it also doesn’t strip the skin from its natural oils but rather removes all of those excess grease and dirt on/in the skin.city-girl-vibe-x-revolution-pro-base-aqua-priming-baseLastly I have another Revolution product that I wanted to give a go at. I am not very big on primers as I haven’t found one that I love 100%. I will do a full review on this priming water as well when I do my review on the Revolution palette. This aqua based primer water is perfect for someone that uses a lot of powder on the face (like me) and it also works great at intensifying eyeshadows. Without going too much into detail, I just know that this is a product that many makeup users and lovers would adore.

And that is a wrap up of all my favourite beauty products for the summer months. Have you used any of the products that featured on my list? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

Ur.u Honey Scent Bath Crystals

I have never ‘officially’ declared this but I am such a bath crystals girl. I adore them in each and every form and I have found them to be such nifty bath products that I can use for so many different things. To me, bath crystals are such underrated gems in the beauty world and when I discover a new one, from a brand that I’ve never heard of before and that smells as yummy as the one that I am reviewing in today’s post… you bet I’m gonna put it on my recommendation list.
Firstly, I’ve never heard of the Ur.u brand before. I have been searching the internet high and low since I started putting this product to the test but with little luck have I found anything about this brand. I wish I did so that that I can tell you darlings where to pick this up (I didn’t purchase this myself) as it is such a fantastic product that I know so many people would love. It also makes for such a stunning gift, well at least I know I would adore this as a gift – thoroughly.city-girl-vibe-x-uru-honey-scent-bath-crystals
Let me first start off with the scent of this bath crystals as it is the first thing that grabbed my attention. Imagine indulging your senses in a mixture of honey and caramel, with a vanilla undertone. Captivated yet? This smells exactly like my description. I’m not good at describing scents but this would be the most accurate that I’ve ever described a scent. It makes the water smell amazing and is not one of those overly sweet, headache inducing scents. I’d love this scent in a room and linen mist to be completely honest.
So the instructions suggests that you use one tablespoon of the bath crystals in your bathtub (holding it under running water) but seeing that I’m not bathing right now drought and all I love using these bath crystals in the shower as an exfoliator. My favourite thing is to put it in my foot spa and turning it to the “soak” option and just letting my feet soak and bask in the glory of this honey scented heaven.
city-girl-vibe-x-uru-honey-scent-bath-crystals-reviewAs you can see, there’s little flex of gold particles in these crystals – I can’t even begin to describe the beautiful glow that it gives your body, especially if you use it targeting a specific area. When it comes to my beauty products, I love using my items for more than what it’s been intended for. This product is no exception. If you’re a leg shaver like myself, bath crystals in general makes for great exfoliating. It removes those dead skin cells, prevents ingrown hairs and gives you that overall smooth feeling on the legs.
For bath crystals, this product is extremely moisturizing. You can feel the sweet almond oil just sinking into your skin; leaving it hydrated and soft. I never knew what was meant by “softening the water” until I used this product. The crystals really does give a calmness to your bath water (in my case, at home footspa water) and it feels quite luxurious.
Ps if you want your car smelling fresh, pop some bath crystals in a little mesh bag and place it in a spot where the sun shines on it. Have you heard of this brand before?
